today's highlightsposted on Aug 27 '07

on the way back from Safeway i stopped to let a man who looked like David Crosby cross the street.

that's probably the only highlight for the day. but the night is young!

so i've been doing all this writing for my book lately and that makes me want to blog more, yet blog less. and then i thought about taking an excerpt from a chapter and posting it up, but then decided against it. not sure why.

in just a few days it will officially be two years since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast. thinking about the hurricane is kind of sobering to me. as a bona fide southerner i have lived through my fair share of hurricanes, tornados, flash floods, ice storms, wind storms, violent thunderstorms, etc. yet i guess when one decides she has something beat, or under her thumb, the outcome of that one different storm blows all understanding away, along with houses, cars, and trees. in a way i feel as though all i ever understood about our weather was wrong. perhaps that sounds like it shouldn't be the big deal that it is. if we ever meet face-to-face i can explain it to you. i will also say that the absolute worst came out in people, and believe it or not, it is the aftermath of Katrina that forever burned into my skull that all people, regardless of race, gender, or religious preference, are all inherently evil. i was in utter disbelief at what i saw going on around me and i wept at the injustices being committed to my left and to my right. utter chaos. perhaps i was just jaded enough to think that these genteel southern people could never act this way. but like i said, we are all evil, and my naive little eyes were witness to many atrocities in the days following the tragedy.

But while we were yet still sinners, Christ died for us...
